Merry Christmas from the Andersons

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year! We love this time of the year especially living in Phoenix . . .drinking hot chocolate outside in our sandals. As a kid it seemed like the month of December couldn’t go by any slower, but times have changed. . . now with our own, five moves, three kids and two guinea pigs later it seems like the month of December soon fills up with parties, dance recitals, plays, school programs . . . and the list goes on, the month of December wont slow down so we can just enjoy it.

Like the month of the December, we have had an eventful year. After Dusty’s “sike deployment” we decided to make the most of our time here in Arizona. (For those of you who don’t know, Dusty nearly spent this Christmas serving in Afghanistan. Last March he was given a five-day notice that he would be heading overseas for a one year Air Force deployment. Then, two weeks into his training the deployment was canceled. What a whirlwind.) We knew this might happen during our time serving in the military and tried to take things in stride. We were however, grateful that Daddy did not have to leave us for a full year. We have learned a lot about the military this past year and a half, our appreciation for the military has grown and we definitely feel more patriotic. We are blessed to have had these experiences.

Dusty’s flexible schedule has provided opportunity to take some fun vacations. The highlight was probably our Disneyland trip this past fall. We truly had a “magical” time watching Isaac, Emma and Sophia meet their favorite Disney Characters. We have also enjoyed a few Utah trips as well as a couple of San Diego and Las Vegas trips. We are looking forward to our move in June to Gainesville, Florida (Go Gators) where Dusty will complete a three year residency in anesthesiology.

This year Dusty and I decided to train for and run the St. George Marathon. During the long training runs I was able to listen to a lot of books on my ipod. I usually don’t get much reading in at home with the kids so this was a great way to multi-task. I really enjoyed the race and even qualified for the Boston Marathon . . .just failed to sign up for the race before registration closed. Darn. Dusty enjoys mountain biking much more then running, but still pushed through the race. He recently participated in a 12 hour “Dawn ‘til Dusk” mountain bike race with three other physicians from his clinic. They competed against other “sponsored” teams finishing 12th of 40. We spent the day watching the race and cheering for Dusty and his team members.

This year Isaac (6 years) started kindergarten. He loves his class and his teacher Ms. Goetz. He has made friends quickly and is excelling in his schoolwork. Isaac has an interest in sharks, alligators and reptiles he loves to read books and learn new facts about them. He has enjoyed soccer, swim lessons and most recently tennis lessons. He is totally into Star Wars –he got a guinea pig for his birthday and appropriately named it “Saber” after a “light saber”. He is very energetic and keeps us laughing.

Emma (4 years) loves to sing and dance. She has enjoyed a tap and ballet class and a dance play group. This month she will have two different performances, one the “Nutcracker” play and the other a dance recital. She is excited to perform “on stage”. After Isaac got his guinea pig Emma quickly saved some money so she too could have a guinea pig to “mother”. She named it “Sparkles”. She loves to read books and enjoys going to story time on base. Dusty and I are Emma’s primary teachers at church. We have enjoyed Emma in class and appreciate her sweet spirit given she is the only girl of ten energetic children!

Sophie (1 ½ years) is running around and trying to do whatever her older sister is doing. She likes to carry purses around and hold baby dolls. She loves to feed herself and will even try to pray before she eats. She definitely knows she is the baby of the family and gives us a very high-pitched squawk to get what she wants. We love when she gets sleepy and slows down enough to cuddle with us.

In the hustle and bustle of this Christmas season, I hope we are all able to remember the true meaning of Christmas and keep our Savior Jesus Christ in our hearts and minds. We are so grateful for our many blessing and the freedoms we enjoy everyday. We wish you a merry Christmas and hope 2009 has also brought you happiness and joy.

Love, The Andersons

Dustin, Jandee, Isaac, Emma and Sophia

Emma's Christmas Dance Performances

Emma has been in two different dances this month one "The Crazy Nut Cracker" her and her dance play group on base were little dancing snow flakes. They all looked soooo cute. The other was her ballet and tap dance class Christmas performance. Her class did a cute teddy bear dance then the girls were able to do a dance at the end with their Dad's. So precious. Great job Emma (and Daddy).

Isaac's Kindergarten Christmas Program and Tennis Lessons

Last week the Kindergarten classes at Isaac's school had a Christmas performance. Isaac is not much of a singer, but he had been singing all of the Christmas songs during the week and teaching us the actions to them. . .and if we sang the wrong words to "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" he would correct us! It was fun to see him in the presentation. Here is a picture of him and his best friend at school Carson. Nice singing Buddy, we love you.
Isaac also finished up his tennis lessons last week. He had a fun time learning the game, they would practice with a beach ball, then switch over to a huge tennis ball. Go Isaac!

Happy Birthday Dad

We celebrated my Dad's birthday by enjoying some yummy "Chocolate Gravy" for breakfast. . .don't ask I know it sounds weird and yucky, but it is a family recipe that I grew up on. We enjoyed it on all special occasions. Happy Birthday Dad, we miss you.

HaPpY BiRtHDaY EmMA #4

On November 30th Emma turned the big 4! Emma has grown so much this past year. It has been a year of dress ups, princesses and "helping" to mother Sophie, she is constantly adding accessories and more clothing on top of whatever she has on. I need to start calling her "Fancy Emma". We love our Emma. Having her birthday around Thanksgiving is great, because then we get to celebrate it with family. We were up in Utah with my family and had a great party at "Classic Skating" (a place I use to go roller skating as a kid). We had some fun rainbow cupcakes, pizza and a good time. We hope Emma has a great 4th year.

Projects

Just wanted to share a few projects that Dusty and I have completed lately.

I have this huge sun umbrella that I needed a stand for. Dusty enjoys doing projects so. . . I pulled up Pottery Barn and found one I liked, I showed it to Dusty and a few hours later wala! I love it. Thanks Dusty.

I made Emma's "Belle" Halloween costume. I was actually impressed with this one, since I am not a seamstress. . . I can sew a straight line, but find it tricky to follow patterns. I even made the tutu under her dress. What cute princess and a great Mom! BTW Isaac and Emma both won costume contests!

This one took me a couple of months to finish. I had been looking for a blue piece of art for a while and just wasn't finding what I wanted so I finally decided to do a canvas painting (not that I am a painter, but thought I could try). At first I just started painting blue, then I decided I needed to use a ruler, then I kind of got carried away with all the lines and this is how it ended. Sometimes I like it and sometimes I don't, still trying to decide. It is a little busy, but I do like the blues.

These next two projects were simple my sister Jonique GAVE me a cricut cutter. I just cut out "COOKIES" in vinyl and applied it on my cookie jar. . .love it. And applied these "ocean themed" vinyl cut outs to some painted blocks that are in the kids bathroom. So FUN.

These are "MY FAV" Dusty made these book shelves a while back for Isaac's room. They were another "Pottery Barn Project".

I bought this dresser for the girl's room off of "Criag's List" it was sanded and ready to be painted -perfect the hard part was done! Painted it light green with a maple finish. I love the hardware on it.

Happy Birthday Dusty

HaPpy BiRtHdAy DuStY!
Last week (October 15th) was Dusty's 31st Birthday it was an eventful week. We had a bar-b-q and the kids wrapped 31 presents (it was their idea since he was turning 31). Most of the presents were gummies and fruit roll ups - his favorite treats, but he did have a few real ones in the mix. I made sugar cookies - his fav and pumpkins cookies and took them into the office -just to make sure everyone told him Happy Birthday! The day after his birthday his brother Craig and his wife Lanta and son Blake flew into town for the weekend. We had a great time with them. Craig is an attorney in Las Vegas and had a case that went to the 9th circuit, there were 3 judges and one of them was the retired Sandra Day O'Conner from the U.S. Supreme Court it was held at ASU so the Law students could watch and learn! I am told did an awesome job; I wasn't able to go, but Dusty took the day off and went to watch. We are glad they made a trip out of it. Dusty and I went on a run with Craig. We showed them around the Air Force Base (Lanta grew up in the military and was stationed here when she was 7 with her parents). We also went out to Scottsdale and had a great time with them.

Emma and Isaac helping Daddy open his "31" presents.
Craig, Lanta, Blake, Isaac, Dusty, Sophie and Emma enjoy a walk in Scottsdale.
The kids playing at the park. (Isaac loves his cousin and kept dressing like him.)

Dusty and Craig taking cat naps after a 7 mile run.

If I could say more then "uh uh" then I would say "Happy Birthday Daddy, I love you."
Lanta made some yummy 7 layer dip- we enjoyed lots of food and good company.
Earlier in the month Dusty and his friend Tom took the kids to see a Dimondback's baseball game. Good Times.
