Merry Christmas

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We hope this holiday season brings you happiness and joy. 2008 has been an eventful year to say the least. We spent some loooong coooold winter months in Milwaukee, but always enjoyed bundling up to go downtown. Dusty finished up a very busy intern year at The Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. We had a baby, our sweet little Sophie was born on June 23, when she was only 5 days old Dusty left for a month for officers training in the Air Force. The kids and I spent a few weeks at my moms while Dusty was gone; her help was greatly appreciated. We moved to Phoenix, the land of heat! If there is one thing in Phoenix you can always predict, it is the weather, blue skies and sunny. From Milwaukee’s cold winter to Phoenix’s HOT summer we have spent a lot of time indoors this past year. It wasn’t until after Thanksgiving that it has finally cooled down to the 70’s. (And natives think this is COLD?) It is kind of funny to see people wearing a tank top with a scarf. In many ways it just doesn’t feel like Christmas. At the beginning of December we decorated the Christmas tree then went for a walk in flip-flops and shorts. We have found that nothing says Merry Christmas more than a cactus lit up with a string of lights (welcome to the Southwest)!! Needless to say we do like living Arizona, we love the sunsets, saguaro cactus, the mountains that surround the valley, the quiet life living on a military base, and being within driving distance to our families.

Dusty has been working as a family practice doctor here at Luke Air Force base. He has learned a lot about the military and the responsibility of being a physician. He has enjoyed a more flexible schedule then the past couple of years as well as all of the federal holidays! Dusty has spent most Saturday mornings going mountain biking and has enjoyed living near mountains again.

I have been busy being a mother of three, going to playgroups, story times, taking the kids swimming, on walks and bike rides. I really cherish the moments that I am able to stand back and watch the kids play and interact with one another. They have grown a lot during this crazy year and have really become the best of friends.

Isaac (5 years old) has loved preschool this year and has made many friends. His teachers always have great things to say about him. Isaac has been learning to read this year and we have enjoyed seeing him succeed in that. He recently read a set of beginner books and was rewarded with a trip to Chucky Cheese. Isaac loves to draw, we are amazed at some the details of his pictures, he sometimes turns his pictures into books and phonetically writes out words to tell his story. He learned how to ride his bike without training wheels this year and is very proud of that – he is always trying new tricks to be like Dad. We have loved to see Isaac’s confidence grow as he accomplishes new things.

Emma (3 years old) is our coy little princess who loves to dress up. She is constantly wearing a Tinker Bell costume or a princess dress with a crown and the plastic high hills to match, and yes she always insists on wearing them to the store. Emma loves to “read” to her baby dolls and push them in strollers when we go for walks. She loves her older brother and always wants to be like him, she often says “I’m 5”! Emma has learned her capital letters and can count from 1-10. We are so proud of her.

Sophia (6 months) loves to jump in her doorway jumper, take baths, and watch Isaac and Emma play. She loves attention and has a sweet little laugh. She has been starting to eat baby food and has just started sitting on her own. We have loved the addition Sophie has been to our family. She is a great baby. We love our little Sophie.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! May 2009 bring you peace and great joy.

Best Wishes,
Dustin, Jandee, Isaac, Emma and Sophia Anderson

Sophie's first Santa visit.

Emma was a little too timid to sit on Santa's lap, well actually she was extremely too timid to sit on Santa's lap.

Isaac with the "real" Santa. We had seen Santa at a story time, but Isaac said it wasn't the "real" Santa because he had on army pants with a Santa jacket. We decided it was just one of Santa's helpers! But, this Santa was the real deal and had a huge line to prove it!

why

I think you will all agree with me on this one, there are a lot of Wal-Marts around. Right! But, why are they always hand in hand with McDonalds and The Dollar Store? They're always tic tac toe three in a row. Is that what this world is coming to?
Just a thought!!

Family Home Evening

This is our "trunk of treasures" we pull it out a couple of times a year for Monday night Family Home Evening. It is full of treasures from our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. This old suit case was actually my grandpa Hood's who used to travel a lot. I decorated it back in high school when I thought I was a hippie!

href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5YYC9ezpuDjuZiFKBFIulqWt-b0S5lMwVMuWdm-5GTzr8aStousteOu_2M8M15aWycgriMdDn-TJyl4Qc4UTNYpU35kmqjp9pe3R-fal11lvJ0WvZt72wXtMcgXhwIrtQ7TeOCodBwl4/s1600-h/100_5119.JPG">
Some of our treasures include:
Money from France when my Grandpa Hood was there during WWII.

An elephant from my Grandma and Grandpa Leavitt's mission in South Africa.

Our newest addition a cameo broach from Dusty's Grandma Olive Bowen this will someday be passed down to Sophia "Olive".

Dusty's Uncle Gerald series of short stories.

My Great-Grandma Holman's fashionable hat with a picture of me dressing up in it when I was little.

A dress my Grandma Chomor made me when I was little, she also made matching ones for my sisters.

A knife my Dad made from a deer antler.

WWII pictures of my Grandpa Leavitt who served in the Canadian Air Force and my Grandpa Hood who served in the US Army.

My Grandma Chomor bought each one of her Granddaughters a nice ring when they turned 16, this is mine and I will pass it on to Emma when she turns 16.

We have hats from both Grandpa Anderson and Grandpa Bowen.

It is exciting for the kids to have these special Family Home Evenings when we choose a few things from the "Trunk of Teasures" to talk about. It has been fun to have them hold something tangible of the families while we share a story. It is especially nice this time of year to talk about family traditions and share family recipies.

Dad

Four years ago I remember celebrating your birthday with you. The family all came over to your house, we had a great lunch, watched the kids play in the backyard and took some family pictures. Little did we know this would be one of the last treasured memories we have of you. You are now gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. We miss you and wish you were still here. We miss making memories with you. My heart aches knowing that my children will grow up without you in their lives. I hope they can learn to know you from the stories and pictures we have of you. Thanks for the good times, for the adventures, for your love and all your support in life. We will always love you and miss you forever.

Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday

What an eventful week we had. Thursday Thanksgiving, Saturday Grandma Herbie's Birthday, Sunday Emma's Birthday and Monday my Birthday. Like I always say: Tic tac toe 3 birthday's in a row! (I know I am a dork)

We had a great time. We meet up with Dusty's family in Zion's National Park in Southern Utah. It is always so beautiful there, it is nice to take a break from our everyday lives and see some of God's amazing creations. We had a yummy Thanksgiving dinner and throughout the weekend we enjoyed spending time with lots of cousins, hiking, tours, movies, watching the kids play football, biking for some, and of course with all the birthdays some parties too. We will let the pictures tell the story.

I was just emailed this pic and had to add it to the blog. Notice the cameraman (aka my father-in-law) in the back getting a "rear" shot. Hi! our faces are on the "other side"!!!1

My Little Emmy

If only I had told her to look sassy!

Emma turns 3 this month. HaPpY biRtHdaY eMma. We loVe YoU. This past year she has enjoyed playing with babies and pretending to be a princess. She loves princesses and when ever she puts on a dress she says "I'm a princess" and yes she is my little princess. I was getting her ready for church on Sunday and when I put this cute little wool dress on her she got soooo excited, she has been wanting to wear it for a couple of months (it is a hand-me-down from her cousin) it is wool so I've been telling her we have to wait until it is not so hot outside. It is still reaching into the high 80's (today 87 degrees- November 19th) I finally decided to let her wear it, I'm not sure when it is going to get much cooler. After she had it on she said "let's pretend I have a crown." It was really cute. We love you Princess Emma.

READ ALL ABOUT IT

Look who was on the front page of the local news paper. It's 'Honest Abe' the caption is kind of hard to read from the scan but it reads: Bel-Esprit Day School Pupil Isaac Anderson, 5, of Glendale, marches as Abraham Lincoln during a Veterans Day parade in Litchfield Park Tuesday. Several dozen preschool children participated in the event, which honored U.S. military veterans.

Veterans' Day Celebration

Isaac's preschool had a Veterans' Day celebration on Tuesday. It was really cute, all the kids marched in a parade; Isaac was as you can see in the pictures Abraham Lincoln (probably the shortest one you've seen) they also sang "Yankee Doodle" (which Isaac has been singing all week) and a few other songs. They recited the Pledge of Allegiance and we all had a picnic after. Isaac was one of the children with a parent in the Military so he was able to hang a picture of Dusty on the "Wall of Heroes". We are proud of you Dusty for serving our country. Isaac you did a great job marching and singing, we love you.

Living on a military base and having Dusty serve our country has definitely made me feel more patriotic. Everyday at 7 am, 5 pm and 10 pm our national anthem is played on loud speakers that are positioned all around base. If you are outside, you stand facing the music and place your hand on your heart as you listen to the song. If you are driving on base you pull your car over and listen to the music. These 3 minutes everyday spent pondering the freedoms of our country help me remember what a great and blessed country that we live in and it reminds me of the men and women who have given their lives for it. Thank you to all the men and women who serve our country.
