Isaac's 5th Birthday - San Diego

Isaac's birthday week was full of exciting things. We had some friends over for Isaac's birthday dinner. The menu was full of his favorites; spaghetti, crazy bread and salad with plenty of croutons to dip in of course ranch dressing (isn't this a favorite for all kids?!). For dessert we had an orange dragon birthday cake- requested by of course the birthday boy. I looked online how to make one, it was pretty fun to make and not too hard either. Isaac enjoyed picking out prizes and treats to send in birthday bags for all his friends at preschool. We woke him up early the day of his birthday before Dusty went to work so he could open presents. He was really excited he loved the sea creature shirts from Emma, animal encyclopedia from Sophie and his very own digital camera from Mom and Dad. Later in the day after Dusty got home from work we headed to San Diego for the weekend. It is only a 5 1/2 hour drive right along the boarder of Mexico (let me tell ya we felt real safe with all the boarder patrol stops and sniffing dogs).

In San Diego we stayed at a US Naval Base 10 min from Sea World, it was great. On Saturday we spent the day at Sea World, the kids and I have never been and it was totally awesome to see the killer whales and dolphins jump up in the air and do their tricks. We sat on the second row for the dolphin show and a worker came up to us before it started to see if Isaac wanted to be the boy who goes up to feed the dolphins (if you've been before this is like a once and a life time opportunity), but of course he passed it up. The kids were in complete awe as we watched the shows. They also had fun on some rides. Dusty was a bit sad that he didn't get to ride the big rides, he felt too bad to leave all three kids with me while he went. Isaac still has a couple more inches before he can go on them. - poor kid, he would have loved em.

On Sunday we enjoyed walking down Seaport Village and playing a little family football along the shore with the nice sea breeze. Then we headed a few miles north to walk around the San Diego LDS Temple, such a beautiful temple. The missionaries showed the kids some pictures of temples and we enjoyed the nice flowers around the temple grounds.

We couldn't leave California without stopping off at the beach so we found a spot to let the kids get wet before we headed home. Emma was a bit nervous about the water, but she loved playing in the sand and carrying the sun umbrella around. Isaac absolutely loved the ocean, the waves and making some kind sand/seaweed creation with his Daddy. The weather was great and the kids were all peaceful until we had to wash off before we got in the van to do home. Some how the sand and sun screen didn't mix well! Emma was covered in sand and we were at a beach without showers. Dusty had the privilege of taking her out in the water to wash her off. She screamed, kicked, and she cried, ya know the reaction when people think you are beating your kid! It was great! I just smiled and was glad Dusty was washing her off instead of me.

We had a great weekend and Isaac had an exciting week for his birthday. I just can't believe he is 5 years old. We love you Isaac.

I love San Diego. Seth and I went there without kids when Olivia was 1 1/2. It brings back awesome memories, but I remember when we were there how much fun Olivia would have had. We need to go back.
